Holiday Inn Cambridge

Lakeview, Bridge Rd, Impington, Cambridge CB24 9PH, UK – 0871 942 9015

We usually choose hotels on the outskirts of city’s when we’re midway traveling as it’s easier to get back on the road, nothing fancy just a good bed. Well what a pleasant surprise. Huge place, with what looks like an amazing health club also (we didn’t use it as we arrived late with a baby). I had booked a standard room which only had two single beds, no good for us as we co sleep. The lady on the seat was so friendly and helpful she managed to find us an executive room with a large double and we just paid the extra on top; which was barely anything! And she gave us some free drinks tokes for the bar also, clearly we looked as though we needed it! Ordered room service as we were all too smashed to go to the restaurant, and it was excellent. Didn’t have to wait too long, I could get the baby changed and settled and the food was very tasty also. Nice big room with a lovely bath room, our stay was so good I wish we had had a bit more time there. Nice and quiet but super close to the main road. Book marked and will use again!!

The place is average. The best thing about this is the breakfast. They serve almost everything. The dinners are also good. The one issue is the bed sheets had some dry paint and some food stains. I could deal with it but it wasn't to pleasant. The first thing I saw when I went in was a man who greeted us very nicely and gave our card to the room. The only caution is if your getting a room for many people be aware the beds can only fit just 4 people. Thank you

Travelodge Cambridge Orchard Park

Chieftain Way, Orchard Park, Kings Hedges Road, Cambridge CB4 2WR, UK – 0871 984 6481

A new Travelodge on the edge of Cambridge (in the middle of a housing estate of all places). The hotel itself is nice and modern, and very typical of Travelodge hotels. The rooms are simple (there are no hair dryers for example), but comfortable. It's about an hour walk into the centre of Cambridge, but there is a bus link, and it's not too expensive in a taxi. The biggest issue is Travelodge only offer 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi, requiring you to pay £3 on top of what you paid for your room for 24 hours. There is also plenty of parking available behind the hotel.

Comfy beds. Lovely, attentive staff. Just needs soft pillows and some touching up on the decorating. Oooo...and try their puddings, sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was top notch!

Hotel Felix

Whitehouse Ln, Huntingdon Rd, Girton, Cambridge CB3 0LX, UK – 01223 277977

I was lucky enough to find this gem of a hotel, all the staff were exceptionally welcoming and informative. However the poignant point of this wonderful hotel is that they are dog friendly, I arrived with my two great Danes and we were all made to feel very welcome, the hotel has a wonderful orangery where you can eat and drink with your dog(s) and lovely grounds with a public walk way just by it and a large park just over the road. The facilities are 5 star, so regardless if you are travelling with your dog or not this is a hotel to book!

Love this hotel... great size rooms.. beautifully decorated and very clean.. beautiful grounds.. we have been staying at this hotel over the last 3 years and they never disappoint..

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Railway Vue Pub

163 Station Rd, Impington, Cambridge CB24 9NP, UK – 01223 232426

Food is very nice though they are another one who seem to feel serving on something other than a dinner plate adds class. Ales aren't up to the Red Lion's down the road but to be fair, that's not what they are about. So go here for good food but elsewhere if you want good beer choice.

Great food. Only small so best check if they can fit u in. Loved it. Lovely helpful staff. Nice place and car parking.

Golden Hind

355 Milton Rd, Cambridge CB4 1SP, UK – 01223 420816

Nice local pub. Part of a chain so the food is usual pub fayre, but pretty tasty! Staff are really nice. they have a good range of ales on pump and do cider festivals from time to time. Gets a good mix of people in with a relaxed atmosphere.

Full of character and history with a resident cat: the building is almost as fantastic as the food. Staff are friendly and service is fast with some excellent lunch time options. It's within walking distance of the science park so perfect for a working lunch, but note that getting out of the car park can be very tricky around rush hour.

Milton Arms

205 Milton Rd, Cambridge CB4 1XG, UK – 01223 505012

Standard British pub. Service has always been fine and friendly. I have visited over ten times and am yet to complain about the food here (although don't expect it to be Gordon ramseys either!). Generally quite busy but there are plenty of extra tables outside. Just refurbished. Clean and tidy. Kids area outside. Not a quiet venue. Free parking and easy to find

Yet another homogeneous Greene King pub - raised above the others by its staff and choice of beers. Food is obviously good because the place was packed with diners at 12:15 on a Wednesday. I’d just walked 10 minutes from another GK pub that had more but less interesting beers and a fraction of the clientele.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!
